Again with the site visitor record!
I just finished checking my web access logs and again we have broken another Site Hit Record.
Yesterday we had 322 unique hits or individual people visit the site. It’s awesome how the weather brings traffic to this little ol’ web site.

Feb 2010 Snowstorm(YES) or Blizzard(Not Yet).
As I type this, the snow is falling very heavily outside right now. I currently have 9.5 inches, with a total of 30 possible before this storm is over. I have been so busy getting the “weather cottage” ready for this snowstorm, that I have not been able to post much lately. I am going to try and keep the snow total page up to date over the next 24 hours. So bare with me.
If anyone wants to share their snow totals with me, please drop me an email or comment here on the blog.
So I have heard some sources in the media call this a blizzard. I have yet to see those conditions, so at this point we have to call it a snowstorm. I really hate when the media “over-hypes” weather conditions just for the sake of ratings.

ANOTHER SITE RECORD
I just finished checking my web access logs and it appears www.mountcrawfordweather.org has again broken another Site Hit Record.
Yesterday we had 220 Unique hits or people visit the site. My total hit count for the day was 297 homepage visits. Thanks goes out to all of you for your donations, and your continued support of this “little country weather station”.

Station/Site Maintenance/Winter Prep
Pretty Day here in western Virginia. Most likely the last time we will have warm enough weather to be able to disassemble the rain gauge. My paint job on my rain gauge mod did not fair well due to the sun’s ultraviolet rays over the summer. So I took it down this morning, sanded and cleaned up the outside surface of the funnel real good. I am currently waiting for the adhesive on it to dry, so that I can reapply some plastic compatible paint to it. Hopefully the paint will dry enough that I can get it back on the stand before dark comes this evening.
I also took the time to clean off the Solar panels, evict spiders and their egg sacs. The battery on the inside temp/baro/hygro was also showing low, so replaced that.
www.mountcrawfordweather.org will soon be ready for the hard task of reporting this years winter conditions. Please note, that the site may be down a few times today, as I still have some maintenance things to do.

Webcam Time Lapse / Spam
Well it appears that I got the webcam time lapse fixed again.
Now it appears I am getting alot of Russian spam to this site, and email as well. Luckily I have measures in place that it never gets through to the site and you my users.

WebCam Time Lapse down
I am having issues with the webcam time lapse videos, so at this time they are not being updated. I am working on the issue with others, but I have not still found the problem yet, to even begin to start to fix it.

Site Restored
Well, the power outage is over and operating in a stable manner. So I have brought mountcrawfordweather.org back up to full operation.
Thanks for hanging with me thru this issue.

**NOTICE PLEASE READ** Reduced Site Functionality
I bet some of you are wandering where are today’s current conditions. Well due to a scheduled power outage in my area, beyond my control, I have brought the site down into a reduced functionality mode until power can be restored to the mountcrawfordweather.org cottage.
This power outage is expected to last most of the day on Wed. 9/23/09 and perhaps also on Thurs. 9/24/09.
As you will notice some of the menu selections on the left are grayed-out. Those menu selections will be unavailable during this power outage. I will try my best to restore the site back to normal operation as soon as possible.

Scheduled Power Outage at MountCrawfordWeather.org cottage
Got a message yesterday, that there will be a scheduled power outage on Wednesday and possibly Thursday, due to construction in the area. Even though I have battery backups for the site and such. This power outage may last for up to 10 hours. So at this point, I am going to be shutting down the “live” portions of the website including the webcam on those days. I am in the process of preparing for that now. So don’t be surprised if you see unusual things when some of you check in on the weather Wed. and Thurs. morning.
